A New Addition to the JHM Family

Dear Colleagues,

In line with our continued strategic expansion of Johns Hopkins Medicine’s health care network, we’re pleased to announce that All Children’s Hospital, a 259-bed freestanding children’s hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., will be integrated into the Johns Hopkins Health System.

This integration stems from All Children’s desire to strengthen its education and research programs by collaborating with a highly regarded academic medical institution—and we have much to learn from them, too. All Children’s is the only hospital on Florida’s west coast that’s totally devoted to children’s care, and it draws patients from all 50 states and 36 countries. With a new, 1-million-square-foot medical complex, it offers heart transplantation, blood and marrow transplantation and pediatric trauma services and has one of the largest neonatal intensive care programs in the southeastern United States.

When plans are confirmed, sometime late in 2010, All Children’s will join our health system as a fully integrated member, like Suburban Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and Howard County General Hospital. It’s expected that All Children’s leadership and day-to-day operations will not change. The hospital will preserve its name and also will retain its voluntary medical staff and physician organizations.

This relationship allows us to expand our role as a leader in medical discoveries that improve the health of children. Not only will we be able to broaden our research initiatives here, but we can also increase NIH and other research opportunities on the All Children’s campus.

We continue to be impressed by this well-run children’s hospital and will keep you informed as this initiative is finalized.

Sincerely,

Edward D. Miller, M.D.
Dean of the Medical Faculty
