November 18, 2002

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Julie Gottlieb as Assistant Dean for Policy Coordination. Julie is responsible for implementing a number of key policies in the Dean’s office, including conflict of interest, conflict of commitment (including faculty consulting agreements), and misconduct. Her office guides faculty and staff members, as well as Hopkins Medicine, through the complexities of balancing entrepreneurial activity and research integrity. Julie played a leadership role in the development of the School’s new conflict of interest policy and is working on developing policy in the area of institutional conflict of interest. She speaks nationally about conflict of interest issues and organized a major conference on research integrity.

In her new position, Julie will continue to work on these challenging issues and also will assist the School in coordinating and enhancing activities that support research integrity and compliance with research policies and regulations.

Julie holds an A.B. from Brown University and an M.A. from SAIS. Before coming to Hopkins, she worked in Latin American economic development. She has been on the staff of the Dean’s Office for seven years.

Please join me in congratulating Julie on this new appointment.

Sincerely,

Edward D. Miller, M.D.
Dean of the Medical Faculty
CEO, Johns Hopkins Medicine
