Chaplain Mann leaving Hopkins

    Dear Colleagues:

After ten years as Director of Pastoral Care Services at Johns Hopkins, Stephen Mann has decided to leave the Hospital to pursue other professional opportunities.

Reverend Mann came to us in 1994, and since that time, he has completely reorganized the Hospital’s Pastoral Care program. He has skillfully coordinated the services of fulltime chaplains, community chaplains, and a growing group of residents in our Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program to provide comprehensive pastoral care support at Hopkins, which includes 24/7 service to patients in our Oncology Center and intensive care units.

He also developed, as part of Pastoral Care, the position of Family Advocate to support patients and families involved in our growing organ donation program. Under Stephen Mann’s leadership, there has been tremendous growth in our CPE residency program, and notably, Johns Hopkins is the only hospital in the state of Maryland to have achieved accreditation both by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Pastoral Services and the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education.

Reverend Mann has brought a high degree of professionalism to the Pastoral Care program at Hopkins, and his election to leadership positions on a number of national committees and commissions dealing with pastoral care attest to the recognition of his colleagues. We wish Reverend Mann well in his future endeavors and invite the Hopkins community to honor him at a reception to be held in late January.

    Sincerely,

    Beryl J. Rosenstein, M.D.
    Vice President for Medical Affairs
    The Johns Hopkins Hospital
