Please Help with Diversity Survey - SOM Faculty

    January 13, 2005

    Dear Colleagues:

Last fall, many of you were selected to receive a questionnaire to
assist the Diversity Council of the Department of Medicine in better
understanding professional development concerns among diverse faculty in the School of Medicine. We would like to thank those of you who have
    already responded.

If you did not have a chance to respond to the original questionnaire
last fall, you recently should have received another copy. We are now
asking you to please assist the Diversity Council with this endeavor by
    responding to the survey.

Please be assured that ALL RESPONSES WILL BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL. The data will only be reported in aggregate form. NO INDIVIDUAL PERSONAL IDENTIFIERS (E.G., YOUR SPECIALITY, RANK, GENDER, ETHNICITY) will be linked to responses. Only one individual, the study coordinator, will have access to numeric identifiers for tracking purposes. The study has been reviewed and approved by the IRB.

We know that you have been surveyed a lot in recent months. However,
your input is invaluable to informing the development of a program that
will serve as a model for the entire School of Medicine and a prototype
for other medical schools across the nation as they seek to increase the
numbers and enhance the experiences of faculty from diverse groups.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    George Dover, M.D.
Chair, Committee on Faculty Recruitment and Diversity

    Dean of the Medical Faculty
