Diversity Focus of New Asst. Dean of Students

February 8, 2005

    Dear Colleagues:

We are very pleased to announce that Crystal Simpson, M.D., M.H.S., Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology, has been named Assistant Dean of Student Affairs: Office of Diversity. Her role will be to enhance the recruitment and retention of a diverse medical student body at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

In addition to her research and clinical responsibilities, Dr. Simpson has developed a nationally recognized summer program for minority medical students. Her experience and enthusiasm in supporting our medical students will be a great addition to the Office of Student Affairs.

She joins Dr. Tom Koenig, Associate Dean (Dept. of Psychiatry), Dr. Redonda Miller, Assistant Dean (Dept. of Medicine), and Dr. Michael Barone, Assistant Dean (Dept. of Pediatrics). This completes the expansion of the Office of Student Affairs, where there are now 4 deans to provide mentorship and guidance to the student body.

    Sincerely,

Edward D. Miller, M.D., Dean/ CEO, Johns Hopkins Medicine

David G. Nichols, M.D., Vice Dean for Education
