Best of the Best 2005

October 7, 2005

Dear Colleague:

The Johns Hopkins Institutions are pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2005 Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Community Service. This award recognizes outstanding commitment to volunteer community service by members of the Johns Hopkins Institutions. All faculty, staff, employees, graduate students and retirees are eligible to receive this award.

At the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Celebration in mid-January 2006, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Community Service will be presented to those individuals who demonstrate the same spirit of volunteerism and citizenship that characterized the life of Dr. King. Throughout his life, he had a deep faith in what people working together could accomplish for themselves and for their nation. This will mark our fourteenth annual presentation of community service awards. The celebration also features nationally-known keynote speakers whose work honors and supports the memory of Dr. King.

Today, as our nation faces more complex and growing social problems, we want to recognize those who are committed to building a better community. Please take a moment to reflect on the community outreach efforts currently taking place in your department and share with us the accomplishments and contributions of someone you know who consciously and devotedly helps others.

To submit a nomination for the 2005 Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Community Service, go to: http://hrnt.jhu.edu/mlk/
