Best of the Best 2005

September 8, 2006

Dear Colleagues:

Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation/The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins University are pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2006 Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Community Service. This award recognizes outstanding commitment to volunteer community service by members of Johns Hopkins Medicine. All faculty, staff, employees, graduate students and retirees are eligible to receive this award.

At the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration in mid-January 2007, the Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Community Service will be presented to those individuals who demonstrate the same spirit of volunteerism and citizenship that characterized the life of Dr. King. Throughout his life, he had a deep faith in what people working together could accomplish for themselves and for their nation. This will mark our 14th annual presentation of community service awards. The celebration also features nationally known keynote speakers whose work honors and supports the memory of Dr. King.

Today, as our nation faces more complex and growing social problems, we want to recognize those who are committed to building a better community. Please take a moment to reflect on the community outreach efforts taking place in your department and share with us the accomplishments and contributions of someone you know who consciously and devotedly helps others.

For nomination criteria and to submit a nomination online, visit http://www.jhu.edu/~outreach/mlk/nomination.html.

Paper nomination forms are also available.

If you have any questions about this special award and you work for Hospital or Health System, please contact Shereen Jahed at 410-614-3721 or sjahed1@jhmi.edu.

Employees, students and retirees of the University, please contact Matt Smith at 410-516-6060 or mattsmith@jhu.edu.

Sincerely,
