Deborah Trautman Rejoins Johns Hopkins Medicine as Executive Director of the Center for Health Policy

Dear Colleagues:

It’s my pleasure to welcome Deborah E. Trautman, Ph.D., R.N., back to Johns Hopkins now that she’s completed a Robert Wood Johnson health policy fellowship serving as a senior health policy advisor to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Deb’s significant experience coordinating activities with health policy staff and leadership and other congressional offices will be invaluable as she leads our new Center for Health Policy. In collaboration with the Hopkins community, other academic communities, the health care industry, businesses and government, the Center’s mission is to generate and disseminate the knowledge, expertise and advancements of the Johns Hopkins community and its partners to promote effective health policy. Different from our lobbying efforts, the Center’s goal is to leverage Hopkins expertise to facilitate the thought, discussion and debate that will guide the transformation of today’s health care system and improve health nationally and internationally.

Before her fellowship, Deb was director of nursing for emergency medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and most recently served as interim vice president of patient care services at Howard County General Hospital, where she gained comprehensive knowledge of our emergent and acute-care medical operations. Deb has a joint appointment with the school of nursing and played a pivotal role in establishing standards of practice for nursing and ancillary services.

Deb’s experience here and on Capitol Hill combines to create an exciting opportunity for our voice to be heard as we look at the future of health care. The office is currently located at 550 Bond Street and Deb will report jointly to me and Steve Thompson. Please join me in wishing Deb great success in this new role.

Sincerely,

Edward D. Miller, M.D.
Dean of the Medical Faculty
CEO, Johns Hopkins Medicine
