Update on Epic and opportunities

Dear Colleague,

We'd like to inform you of an opportunity to be part of the team that will implement a new electronic patient medical record system across Johns Hopkins Medicine. We are finalizing an agreement, subject to Board approval, with Epic, a leading software company that specializes in providing electronic clinical and financial information systems for the health care industry. Through Epic, we will have an advanced clinical and financial information system, providing one centralized database for seamless access to each patient's record throughout the Hopkins Medicine system. This will help us ensure that our institution is one of the safest and most efficient health care systems in the country.

The task of integrating Epic across the enterprise requires the creation of new jobs that call for clinical, administrative, financial, project-management and IT skills. We are immediately looking to fill more than 64 positions, and we expect to establish more positions in the future. This initial hiring phase is part of what's being referred to as the Ambulatory First rollout, and these positions will focus on business areas such as clinical documentation, analytics and research, as well as scheduling and registration.

With work on the project beginning in mid-September, we invite you to bid to become a part of this team that will help lead Hopkins Medicine into the future. Benefits include an exclusive training process that may ultimately result in more career and leadership opportunities for you.

Job opportunities are posted at hopkinsmedicine.org/employment/EPIC. To be considered, bids must be completed as soon as possible. Candidates for the first round of interviews may be selected as early as the week of July 18th. While bids will continue to be considered after that time, we encourage you to act as soon as possible if you are interested. Please remember that this is the first phase in hiring. We anticipate that there will be a second opportunity for inpatient and ancillary positions, as well as other opportunities for leadership and staff positions in the future.

To truly make this single, electronic medical record solution work for the entire system, we'd like to hire a mix of clinical, operational, business and IT professionals from all of our member organizations. We encourage you to seriously consider becoming part of this important team.

Sincerely,

William A. Baumgartner, M.D.
