Thank you

Dear Colleagues,

We want to thank every employee throughout Johns Hopkins Medicine for their calm reaction to the earthquake. It made a huge difference in making sure that our patients continued getting the care for which they came to us.

The safety and care of our patients is a top priority across Johns Hopkins Medicine, and that was no exception during the earthquake. No patient care activities were compromised throughout the enterprise. There were no injuries, and an initial inspection of all JHM buildings, including our Howard County, Montgomery County and Washington, D.C., facilities, has shown us that they are safe for operation. Business is operating as usual at all of our locations.

However, we do want to reiterate that aftershocks can still occur. Although the initial inspection showed that all buildings were safe to reoccupy, please report any damage to your facilities management office or to your campus security department.

If you need to discuss fears or concerns due to today's unexpected earthquake, please contact your employee assistance program for support.

If necessary, we'll make sure that any further developments are quickly communicated to you.

Again, we appreciate everything you did during this extraordinary event.

Edward D. Miller, M.D.
Dean of the Medical Faculty
