New Conflict of Interest and Disclosure Policies in Effect

Dear Colleagues:

New policies on conflict of interest and professional commitment are in effect as of today.  We shared general information about the new policies, which were developed to comply with revised federal regulations on conflict of interest in research, in our e-mail of July 10, 2012.  The new policies affect the disclosure requirements that apply to investigators on research grants, contracts, and protocols, and to all faculty members.
We are writing now to provide additional details and resources related to the new policies.

  • The new JHU Policy on Financial Interests and Conflict of Interest in Research and the new SOM Policy on Disclosure and Professional Commitment are available here.
  • The Office of Policy Coordination’s website contains general background information, details about disclosure requirements and FAQs.
  • In order to comply with Johns Hopkins policy and federal regulations, all investigators must complete a new online training course on conflict of interestThe course will be available on or about Sept. 4, and must be completed by Oct. 31, 2012
    • To access the course, go to My Learning at https://learning.jhu.edu.  Log in using your JHED ID and password, and then search for the course titled “Conflict of Interest and Commitment.”
  • A new online disclosure system, JHU eDisclose, has replaced eOPC.  All new disclosures must be made in JHU eDisclose, which is accessible here.  Use your JHED ID and password to access your account.
    • JHU eDisclose is designed to comply with the new Johns Hopkins policies and federal regulations on conflict of interest.
    • Your most current new and updated disclosures in eOPC were transferred to JHU eDisclose.
    • eOPC is accessible to you as a “read only” database.  You can view and copy from, but not alter, your old disclosures.
    • JHU eDisclose is being used in the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, Engineering, and Arts and Sciences.
  • If your department or division would like to arrange for a presentation, please contact Christina Doty, director of outside interests, at cdoty2@jhmi.edu

If you are an investigator, please take the time to become familiar with the disclosure requirements that apply to you.  It is very important that you make new disclosures promptly and as required by policy and that you update your disclosures when they change.

To contact OPC Outside Interests division staff directly, please email policy@jhmi.edu or call 410-516-5560.

Thank you in advance for your attention to these important new policy requirements.

Sincerely,

Landon King, M.D.
Vice Dean for Research

Julie D. Gottlieb, M.A.
Associate Dean, Policy Coordination
