The Johns Hopkins Hospital receives Magnet Recognition for the 3rd time

To staff, faculty and trainees of JHH/JHHS/SOM

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce, The Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Nursing has, for a third time, achieved Magnet Recognition status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This prestigious designation for quality patient care, nursing excellence, and innovations in professional nursing practice is a special tribute to our nurses who provide compassionate, patient-family centered care 24/7.

You may recall that our nursing team was the first group in Maryland to receive this renowned recognition and achieving a third Magnet designation emphasizes our ongoing commitment to sustain an environment that values professionalism, collaboration, and positive patient care outcomes. The Magnet appraisers were particularly impressed by the strength of interdisciplinary collaboration, the dedication of all staff to patient safety initiatives, and the level of engagement of nurses in building design and information technology projects.

In particular, I would like to offer thanks to Karen Haller, vice president for Nursing and Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, and each member of our nursing team for their support of our hospital. Like the Magnet appraisers, I commend their work and Karen's leadership and advocacy on behalf of nurses, other disciplines and our patients. I would also like to thank each faculty and staff member and trainee who supported the nursing team during the site visit in September, this was truly a team effort.

With this achievement The Johns Hopkins Hospital retains its place among the best of the best as part of the Magnet community–an honor bestowed on approximately 6.8% of hospitals nationwide. Magnet status is a wonderful complement, and a valuable contribution, to our hospital ranking as #1 in the US News & World Report.

Please join me in congratulating the entire Department of Nursing on this outstanding accomplishment.

Sincerely,

Ronald R. Peterson
President
The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System
EVP, Johns Hopkins Medicine
