March 23, 2015: Community Division Interim Transition Plan

Dear Colleagues,

The Community Division plays a crucial role in Johns Hopkins Medicine's integration strategic priority. Under Brian Gragnolati's leadership, the division has been responsible for fostering systemwide clinical integration through the operations of our community hospitals—Howard County General Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital and Suburban Hospital; the operations and expansion of ambulatory facilities—Green Spring Station, White Marsh, Odenton and the Johns Hopkins Medical Management Corporation; and the development of strategic relationships, including our affiliate hospitals—Greater Baltimore Medical Center and Anne Arundel Medical Center; and through other clinical delivery network relationships, such as Kaiser Permanente and Allegany Health Network/Highmark Health. As Brian leaves us to take on his new role as president and chief executive officer of Atlantic Health System, I want to briefly outline the interim transition plan to assure continuity in these important functions.

The presidents of the three community hospitals and the Johns Hopkins Medical Management Corporation will report directly to me. Gill Wylie will continue to lead the development of ambulatory facilities and ambulatory surgery centers. Gill will also continue in his role with the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians, representing the Community Division and building relationships with community physicians. We will maintain the operating infrastructure of the Community Division, which will continue to be staffed by Conan Dickson.

John Colmers, Johns Hopkins Medicine's vice president for health care transformation and strategic planning, has agreed to expand his current responsibilities to assume lead responsibility for current and developing Johns Hopkins Health System strategic clinical delivery system affiliations and relationships. John will oversee and be supported by the Community Division Business Development group headed by Conan. In addition, he will be working closely with Jon Lewin, Patty Brown and Steve Kravet in the development of the integration strategic priority. Finally, John will serve as the Johns Hopkins Medicine liaison for the National Capital Region Committee. Chip Davis and Gene Green will serve as co-leads for the committee, and they will work collaboratively with their respective boards and Christine Stuppy to promote enhanced alignment within the Washington metro area.

I want to re-emphasize how important the Community Division is to our integration strategic priority, which is to become the model for an academically based, integrated health care delivery and financing system. I sincerely appreciate Brian's leadership over the last few years and look forward to working directly with Chip, Gene, Steve, Gill, Conan and John during this transition period to leverage the resources of the Community Division toward this objective.

Sincerely,

Ronald R. Peterson
President
The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System
EVP, Johns Hopkins Medicine
