New Performance Management System Takes Effect in July

Dear Colleagues,

How we attract, engage, develop and retain our workforce is an important priority in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Strategic Plan, and the new performance management process that is being phased in across the institution will help us develop our people.

I'm excited to announce that in July, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System Corporation employees will transition from the paper job reviews that have been used for decades to an electronic system from SuccessFactors, called myPerformance. This online tool allows better collaboration between managers and employees, and it enhances the opportunity to set goals and to plan and track performance throughout the year. Those who have supervisory duties will be evaluated on leadership competencies; additional information on their evaluation process will be available in the upcoming weeks.

Some of the key features of the electronic performance management system include:

  • Managers will be expected to continue to conduct face-to-face discussions with staff members at the beginning of the year, at a midyear check-in and at an end-of-the-year evaluation.
  • Annual reviews will be completed during a common review period—between July and October each year—with merit increases taking effect the following January.
  • The automated system will send prompts for certain managerial and employee action to keep the review process on schedule.

To familiarize yourself with the process, please read the frequently asked questions introducing myPerformance and the transition. If you have other questions, please see your manager. Thank you for your cooperation as we implement this system. We believe it will be a big improvement in the way we assess our employees.

Bonnie Windsor
Senior Vice President of Human Resources
