Oct. 1, 2015: Gene Green to Step Down as President of Suburban Hospital

Dear Colleagues,

It is with a mix of great pride coupled with deep appreciation and a sense of loss that I announce that Gene Green, president of Suburban Hospital, is stepping down from his position effective Oct. 30 to take on a new role as the president and chief executive officer of South Shore Health and Educational Corporation in Massachusetts.

Gene joined Johns Hopkins Medicine in 2003, working with Johns Hopkins Community Physicians. He quickly established himself as a collaborative and strategic leader, advancing within JHCP and being promoted to president of Suburban Hospital in 2013. Under his direction, Suburban Hospital has experienced unprecedented growth, becoming a hospital of choice among patients and physicians in the National Capital Region.

Gene's talent for developing constructive business relationships across diverse groups has served the institution well. As president of Suburban Hospital, he has successfully advanced our integration efforts in the region, increasing collaboration with departments across Johns Hopkins Medicine to bring clinical teams in neurosurgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology and outpatient transplant services from The Johns Hopkins Hospital to Suburban. He has also been instrumental in increasing our research relationship with the National Institutes of Health, a unique alliance that provides the local community with access to the most advanced diagnostic and treatment protocols for stroke, heart attack and behavioral health.

Thanks to his leadership and guidance, the long-awaited campus enhancement project—Suburban's first major clinical addition in 35 years—is moving forward and will ensure that the hospital continues to provide the highest quality patient- and family-centered care to the community for generations to come.

When Johns Hopkins Medicine launched the five-year strategic plan in 2012, Gene enthusiastically embraced the role as an accountable leader for the Patient- and Family-Centered-Care strategic priority. In this role, he has worked tirelessly—across the enterprise and within Suburban Hospital—to promote a culture that ensures we fulfill our promise to deliver the best and safest care to the communities we serve.

I am very grateful to Gene for the time he has spent with us, for his leadership and for his dedicated service to Johns Hopkins Medicine. I will share with you a leadership transition plan for Suburban Hospital in the near future.

Please join me in wishing Gene much success as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.

Sincerely,

Ronald R. Peterson
President
The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System
EVP, Johns Hopkins Medicine
