Amy Deutschendorf Appointed Vice President for Care Coordination and Clinical Resource Management for the Health System

To the Johns Hopkins Medicine community

Dear Colleagues:

In an effort to further integrate our academically driven health care system, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Amy Deutschendorf to the position of vice president for care coordination and clinical resource management for the Johns Hopkins Health System.

Amy currently is the vice president of care coordination and clinical resource management for The Johns Hopkins Hospital, a position she has held since 2014. Since 2008, she has also served as senior director for utilization and clinical resource management for the Johns Hopkins Health System. In these roles, Amy has led the health system initiative for reducing preventable readmissions through implementing care coordination and interdisciplinary care delivery strategies. She also was an integral member of the senior team responsible for the development of a Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation grant that launched the Johns Hopkins Community Health Partnership—a three-year, $20 million program focused upon improving the health of underserved, high-risk patients in East Baltimore. On a national level, Amy is recognized as a subject matter expert on care coordination and utilization, and she is helping to shape national policy in areas including readmissions, utilization and care management models.

In her new position, Amy will help standardize our approaches to care coordination and utilization within our hospitals, aid in compliance with federal and state regulations, and provide leadership and innovation to ensure that the care transition for our patients from hospital to home is safe, effective and patient-centered. She will continue to represent health system interests at state and national venues on topics related to care coordination and resource management.

Amy has over 35 years of management, staff education and consulting experience, including advanced nursing practice, clinical care delivery design, nurse leadership development and corporate regulatory compliance. She has published and presented nationally on a variety of topics affecting patient outcomes, including risk reduction strategies, professional nursing advancement, patient care delivery and current health care trends. Amy began her career as a clinical nurse specialist in medicine and oncology, and has served as the senior director for nursing practice, education, and research and care management. She holds a B.S. in nursing from Case Western Reserve University and an M.S. in nursing from the University of Maryland.

Amy's extensive background in care coordination, her strong communication skills and her innovative leadership will serve her well in her new role. Please join us in congratulating Amy on this well-deserved appointment.

Sincerely,

Ronald R. Peterson
