Johns Hopkins Capacity Command Center Now Open

To the East Baltimore campus

Dear Colleagues,

Opening the doors on the state-of-the-art Johns Hopkins Capacity Command Center is an exciting step forward in better managing the flow of patients during their stay in The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The space brings together staff members from across the hospital—who previously communicated through email, phones and faxes—into one room to make communication more efficient. Twenty-two digital screens that are being monitored by Hopkins Access Line, bed management, Lifeline, admitting and environmental care services staff members provide a real-time snapshot of everything from the number of beds available to when patients are being admitted and discharged to which units need additional staff members.

See this video to get a tour of the space and an idea of how the center works.

This initiative is about more than just the physical command center space. These digital screens will provide historical data to inform the future demand for patient beds. It also gives us what we need to maximize the number of patients who can access our services. The command center is just one more example of our commitment to provide exceptional patient- and family-centered care.

Sincerely,

Johns Hopkins Office of Capacity Management
