Welcome to Megan Kasimatis Singleton, the New Assistant Dean for Human Research Protection

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to introduce Megan Kasimatis Singleton as our new assistant dean for human research protection and director of our Institutional Review Board (IRB) office. Megan officially started her position on Oct. 1, but she has been actively helping us in the transition since Judith Carrithers retired earlier this year.

For the past seven years, Megan was the associate director for the University of Pennsylvania's IRB. She received her law degree from Temple University and her master’s degree in bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania. Megan has been active in educational programs supported by the University of Pennsylvania's Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and in a Fogarty-funded initiative to foster the growth of IRB review in Guatemala.

Under the direction of Judith Carrithers, our Johns Hopkins Medicine IRB was recently accredited by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs for another five years. Megan has the training and experience to lead our program as we continue to focus on protecting those who partner with us in discovery by joining clinical research studies. She will guide our IRB in the next few years as we implement the new National Institutes of Health (NIH) single IRB policy. In addition, Megan will play a key role in our recently funded NIH's CTSA Trial Innovation Center program, which will assist research teams with the management of single or central IRB functions.

Please join me in welcoming Megan to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Daniel E. Ford, M.D., M.P.H.
Vice Dean for Clinical Investigation
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
