Keith Hill to Retire as Vice President for Corporate Security for Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine

To the Johns Hopkins Medicine community

Dear Colleagues,

We write with mixed emotions to let you know that Keith Hill, vice president for corporate security for the Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine, will be retiring at the end of this calendar year. While this is a loss for the institution, we are happy to take this opportunity to recognize and thank Keith for his many contributions during his tenure at Johns Hopkins.

Keith joined Johns Hopkins in 2013 in the new role of vice president for corporate security, a position created to lead security operations of both Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine in order to better integrate policies, practices and procedures across the institution. His role also included responsibility for parking and transportation services on the East Baltimore campus.

Building on his 25-year career with the U.S. Secret Service, Keith brought highly effective leadership to this new role. He thoughtfully developed an integrated, enterprise-wide corporate security structure, culture and team of professionals. Despite expanding demands on resources, Keith's strategic focus on safety, leadership development, technology enhancements and rigorous officer training strengthened the security force across the institution. Keith also introduced new approaches to security, including the creation of the first ever Johns Hopkins K-9 Unit.

Keith cultivated key relationships with colleagues, community stakeholders, the Baltimore Police Commissioner and his leadership team, and many other constituencies locally and in the region. We are thankful to the enforcement leaders at the federal, state and city levels from whom Keith has been able to draw advice and support across a broad range of security challenges and opportunities.

We will soon launch a search for the next vice president for corporate security for Johns Hopkins. In the meantime, we will keep you informed of opportunities to celebrate Keith's important contributions in support of achieving excellence in our research, teaching, patient care and service missions.

Please join us in thanking Keith for all he has done and will do this year to further the safety and security of our patients, students, faculty, staff and community members.

Sincerely,

Ronald R. Peterson
