Dear Colleagues:

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Mark J. Hingtgen as the Vice President for Johns Hopkins Medicine and Chief Financial Officer for the School of Medicine, effective Sept. 15. Mark will report to the three of us and have responsibility for setting the strategic financial direction of the school of medicine and developing and executing a sustainable financial model that anticipates and responds to the opportunities and challenges inherent in the academic environment.

With over 28 years of operational and financial experience within academic medical centers, Mark comes to Johns Hopkins from the University of Iowa Health Care where he currently serves as assistant vice president for finance. Mark earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in public policy administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He joined the University of Iowa Health Care in 1994 and prior to his current position, served as a financial manager in the Department of Internal Medicine, assistant director in the Department of Radiology and as the assistant dean and chief financial officer in the Carver College of Medicine and the University of Iowa Physician Group. Mark has also worked with the Washington University School of Medicine in the positions of senior departmental accountant and manager of administrative services in the Department of Neurology.

We appreciate the work and expertise of the Search Committee in selecting Mark from so many qualified candidates from across the country.

Please join us in welcoming Mark to Johns Hopkins and the School of Medicine.
