Nauder Faraday Appointed Senior Associate Dean Faculty Development

Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Nauder Faraday, professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine, as the new senior associate dean of faculty development for the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine after an open search process that considered many outstanding candidates. Dr. Faraday will work with Dr. Kim Skarupski and Dr. David Yousem to oversee the innovative and supportive programs the office provides for faculty.

Dr. Faraday is a cardiac anesthesiologist, critical care physician and translational researcher, who is recognized nationally for his expertise in peri-procedural hemostasis and thrombosis and the genetics of anti-platelet therapy responsiveness. Dr. Faraday has a long-standing commitment to mentorship and career development that includes training of students, residents and fellows in his own laboratory, as well as advising faculty throughout his department and across the school of medicine. He has served as vice chair of the school's Associate Professor Promotions Committee since 2012 and as his department's vice chair for faculty and staff development, since 2014. In these roles, he has worked to improve the promotions process by standardizing procedures, increasing transparency and enhancing equity. For instance, he created a web-based tool that has both streamlined annual reviews for ACCM faculty and has provided data to faculty and departmental leadership that highlight opportunities for career growth.

It is paramount that our faculty at all levels feel supported to build and sustain successful careers in academic medicine. We look forward to working with Dr. Faraday to enhance and develop programs that support the professional development and personal well-being of our faculty.
