U.S. News & World Report Announces Results for 2017 Best Children's Hospitals

To the Johns Hopkins Medicine community

Dear Colleagues,

At Johns Hopkins Medicine, we have a long history of delivering innovative, compassionate care to children and their families. Today, we are pleased to share that Johns Hopkins Children's Center was ranked #5 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report on its 2017–18 Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll. Our Children's Center has the distinction of being the only children's hospital integrated with an adult facility to make the honor roll this year, and it continues to be the highest-ranked pediatric hospital in the state of Maryland—all signs of the tremendous devotion of our faculty and staff to providing the best in patient- and family-centered care.

Although our excellence is not dependent on rankings or defined by any one set of metrics, this recognition is gratifying. We want to offer our wholehearted congratulations and thanks to the Children's Center's dedicated and gifted staff, faculty and leadership. Every day their work embodies the excellence and innovative spirit for which Johns Hopkins Medicine is known.

We also congratulate our peers at this year's #1-ranked Boston Children's Hospital. It is an honor to be named among all the hospitals on the honor roll, as we share the common purpose of improving care for pediatric patients and families in our communities.

This year, seven of Johns Hopkins Children's Center's specialties were ranked among the top 10 nationally, with two appearing in the top five. Please join us in congratulating the following divisions on their rankings:

#4: Neonatology
#5: Neurology & Neurosurgery
#6: Cancer
#7: Urology
#9: Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
#10: Orthopedics
#10: Pulmonology
#11: Nephrology
#12: Diabetes & Endocrinology
#34: Cardiology & Heart Surgery

We are also pleased to report that Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, ranked nationally in three specialties: Neurology & Neurosurgery, Cardiology & Heart Surgery and Orthopedics. It is wonderful to have such high-level colleagues working to advance Johns Hopkins Medicine's mission in pediatric academic medicine.

For a complete list of the 2017–18 Best Children's Hospitals, please visit the U.S. News & World Report website. You can also learn more about the methodology used by U.S. News to determine the Best Children's Hospitals on the Johns Hopkins Medicine intranet, in the special edition of Hopkins Insider and on the Children's Center website.

Without question, the caregivers at Johns Hopkins Children's Center—and at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital—are among the best in the field of pediatric medicine. We take this moment to celebrate all the members of our pediatric enterprise and congratulate them on this richly deserved national recognition.

Sincerely,
