For Outbound Shipping, Use OptiFreight Freight Management Program

To JHH, JHHSC and SOM managers

Dear Colleagues,

The Johns Hopkins Health System spends approximately $2 million per year in shipping costs. After identifying opportunities to improve our shipping practices and achieve greater savings on outbound shipping, we selected OptiFreight to centrally manage our outbound shipping needs. To help Johns Hopkins maximize savings on outbound shipping, we request that you use the OptiFreight Freight Management Program.

Please share this list of frequently asked questions with your teams to help them better understand the OptiFreight program and how to use it.

Q: What is the OptiFreight Freight Management Program?
A:
OptiFreight Freight Management is a shipping and freight management service for the health care industry that helps customers more effectively manage their supply chain and control small-package, direct-freight costs. It has an exclusive partnership with FedEx for small-package shipping, and other affiliations across the shipping industry for large-freight shipping. With these connections and its team of freight management and data analytics experts, OptiFreight's consolidated outbound shipping services program helps the health system save an average of 53 percent in shipping rates over direct shipping with other suppliers.

Q: I already ship small packages through FedEx. Do I have to stop using FedEx now?
A:
No, you will still be able to send packages using FedEx. OptiFreight will manage shipping of small packages through an exclusive partnership with FedEx. While OptiFreight is only partnered with FedEx for small-package shipping, we encourage you to try OptiFreight and compare the savings with other services, such as UPS.

Q: How does OptiFreight handle large-freight shipping?
A:
OptiFreight works with a network of 26 carriers, including FedEx Freight, Old Dominion and UPS Freight, to ship large freight.

Q: I do a large volume of shipping. Will any of my shipments be delayed using OptiFreight?
A:
No, your shipments will not be delayed. OptiFreight's delivery timelines are equivalent to FedEx service levels. For added program value, OptiFreight's portal alerts users of greater savings opportunities when setting up shipping.

Q: I'm required to use FedEx Ship Manager due to urgent, high-volume clinical needs. Can I still participate in the OptiFreight program?
A:
Yes, contact OptiFreight Customer Care at 866-457-4579. A representative will provide you with instructions to ensure these methods are properly set up to bill through OptiFreight.

Q: What happens if I have any issues using the OptiFreight portal or if it is down?
A:
If you have issues using the portal and need to use a handwritten air bill, you may still contact OptiFreight Customer Care for billing support.

Q: What other ways can I help to save on shipping costs?
A:
To further save on shipping, use ground shipping when possible and encourage your frequently used suppliers to ship through OptiFreight.

Q: How can I begin using the OptiFreight program?
A: Register here
