Sibley Supports Rheumatoid Research

Sibley Memorial Hospital has awarded Dr. Antony Rosen and his colleagues nearly $1.2 million to fund a research project entitled “Precision Measurement in Rheumatoid Arthritis”.

Dr. Antony Rosen is Professor of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Rheumatology at Johns Hopkins Bayview, and the Mary Betty Stevens Professor of Medicine. Dr. Rosen and his colleagues believe that making precise measurements of a patient’s disease and reaction to treatment holds the key to determining which patients most benefit from different treatments. Specifically, Dr. Rosen and his colleagues have proposed making precise measurements of rheumatoid arthritis patients in four domains, namely the domains of clinical, inflammatory and immunological pathways, imaging, and the patient’s perspective.

Mr. Robert Sloan, President of Sibley Memorial Hospital, oversees the Mackley Fund that was set up at Sibley Memorial Hospital to further research arthritis. As soon as Sibley Memorial Hospital joined Johns Hopkins Medicine, Mr. Sloan was keen to find out if these funds could help support the academic mission at Johns Hopkins Medicine. The outcome has been the awarding of nearly $1.2 million to Dr. Rosen and his colleagues for their ground-breaking research.
