Title | Volunteer to Help Students Achieve Their Education Goals |
Sponsor | Marketing and Communications |
Details | The Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, a nonprofit coalition made up of more than 100 employers, including Johns Hopkins, is seeking volunteers to visit middle school and high school students and share education and career advice as part of one of their two programs: STEM Specialist in the Classroom and the Maryland Scholars Speakers Bureau. Register to participate and sign up for training at Johns Hopkins on Oct. 8 and Nov. 7.
Volunteers can register at thestemnet.com to sign up for either program and participate in a training session. STEM Specialist in the Classroom This program is seeking people who work in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) to inspire students to learn STEM skills and pursue STEM careers. Volunteers go to a high school, give “elbow” support to teachers and help students connect STEM concepts to real life. The training session will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 1830 E. Monument St. Volunteers will then complete an online profile outlining areas of STEM expertise and will be selected by a teacher upon review. The Maryland Scholars Speakers Bureau Volunteers speak to eighth or ninth graders at local schools in four 50-minute sessions about education and career choices and life decisions. The training session will be held Friday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at Johns Hopkins at Eastern. |
