Welcome to the first installment of Email ‘Netiquette.’ Every few weeks, you’ll get tips on how to properly and professionally communicate with your colleagues through email. The first tip covers the importance of using the BCC: field when emailing large groups. Two things can happen if you put everyone’s email address in the To: field: everyone can “reply all” and you’ve given out all of the recipients’ email addresses without their permission. Using the BCC: field eliminates these issues.

Why do you need email etiquette?
A company needs to implement etiquette rules for two reasons:

Professionalism: by using proper email language your company will convey a professional image.
Efficiency: emails that get to the point are much more effective than poorly worded emails.
