Details Do you smoke, but want to quit? Cigarette smoke contains a lethal combination of about 7,000 chemicals. Approximately 70 of those 7,000 chemicals can cause cancer. Smoking cigarettes can potentially affect our blood, bones, autoimmune system, heart, vision, lungs, and reproductive system.

Quitting is tough but help is available! Join in the nationwide Great American Smokeout on Thursday, Nov. 19th. Events at Johns Hopkins Medicine campuses include:

On the East Baltimore campus:
Celebration takes place in the CMSC main loop outside the cafeteria. JHHS/JHH employees can:

  • Pick up a quit kit for themselves or someone who is trying to quit
  • Sign-up for One-on-One Health Coaching
  • Sign a Pledge to Quit for the day
  • Learn about the resources available to you
  • Take part yourself by stopping by the event and being smoke-free for the day!

    ***Anyone who turns in a pack of cigarettes will be entered in a FREE TURKEY GIVEAWAY!***

    At Suburban Hospital
    The Community Health and Wellness Department is hosting a table outside of the cafeteria from 12-2pm. Come by to take the 24 Hour No Smoking Challenge and pick up information and a care package to help you throughout the day. Smokers who complete the challenge will be given a cafeteria meal ticket!

    At Howard County General Hospital
    Visit the Great American Smokeout information table in the hospital's main lobby on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for information support, information and resources. Also, be on the lookout for smoking cessation classes beginning in December.

    Resources at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center
    For Johns Hopkins Bayview employees interested in tobacco cessation, Healthy at Hopkins offers support groups, Fresh Start classes and health coaching, as well as nicotine replacement products at a reduced price for employees.
