Johns Hopkins Safety Stars
Employee Recognition Program

The Program
At The Johns Hopkins Hospital, we want our caregivers and staff to take bold steps to protect patients. That’s why the Hospital in late 2006 launched the Safety Stars program to recognize employees whose exemplary actions have prevented medical errors and identified hazards.

Safety Star winners must meet a high standard, through actions that are proactive, courageous, patient-centered and beyond the call of duty.

Recipients
Please visit our Safety Star Gallery to learn about past winners.

These recipients are honored at meetings of the Patient Safety Committee, where they get a Safety Star pin, a certificate and a personalized letter from Hospital leaders. They are also invited to a recognition dinner during National Patient Safety Awareness Week in March.

Nominations
To nominate someone for a Safety Star award, please e-mail Lori Paine, the Hospital’s patient safety director, at lapaine@jhmi.edu. Provide the names of the individual(s) you believe should be recognized, a description of the event, and why you think these actions deserve the award.

Recipients are selected by the Hopkins Event Action Team, which meets every week to review adverse events reported to Patient Safety Net.
