Our Commitment to Baltimore

Dear Colleagues,

Baltimore is a special city with a legacy of innovation, social progress, inclusion and discovery.

Johns Hopkins Medicine’s roots are in Baltimore, and over generations, the city has nurtured countless leaders and innovators in the field of medicine. The discoveries made here have benefited millions. We are proud to partner with our communities to overcome challenges with unwavering determination, conscious of our connectedness and proud of our shared successes.

This is our home, and we are deeply disappointed to see negative comments that disparage Baltimore and disparage our civic leaders. These comments do an injustice to our city, and they disrespect the tens of thousands of people who work tirelessly every day on behalf of our community, including the nearly 12,000 Johns Hopkins Medicine employees who are proud to live in Baltimore.

Like so many cities in our great country, Baltimore faces serious challenges. Those of us who work at Johns Hopkins Medicine and serve our community know these challenges firsthand, as we see their impact on the health and well-being of our community. We remain committed to improving the lives of our fellow residents through compassionate, world-class health care and dedicated community engagement and service. Every day, Baltimoreans give of themselves to create a brighter future for all, and we are proud to work alongside our neighbors as partners, investing in our shared future.

We hope you take a moment to read a recent op-ed by President Daniels, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank and other Baltimore leaders. They highlight what all of us at Johns Hopkins Medicine know: "When we work together, we rise together."

Sincerely,

Paul B. Rothman, M.D.
Dean of the Medical Faculty
CEO, Johns Hopkins Medicine
