Performance Improvement Plans Launch Today

Dear Colleagues,

To ensure that all employees within the organization support the Johns Hopkins Medicine Innovation 2023 Strategic Plan and our mission to aim for precision in everything we do, the Learning and Organizational Development team created a new process for performance improvement. The Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) will be used in place of corrective action. It will give employees a chance to learn the behavior or performance that they are not meeting, and understand what they need to do to meet expectations.

Automated PIP Launch Process

In October of each year, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) will run a report to identify employees with an overall performance review rating of “Unsatisfactory or Needs Improvement.” HRIS will send a spreadsheet listing these employees to their respective HR business partner. The HR business partner, in coordination with the employee’s manager, will determine if the employee should progress to receiving a formal performance improvement plan. If the conclusion is yes, the employee would benefit from a PIP, the HR business partner will confirm names of employees on the list. Today, Oct. 15, HRIS launches PIPs to managers of employees on the list.

Note: This does not include JHH bargaining unit employees.

Manual PIP Launch Process

A PIP may be launched at any time throughout the year, whenever needed. Managers must contact their HR professional to discuss the circumstances and the need for the PIP. It is important to contact your HR professional prior to notifying the employee. The HR professional will launch the PIP form in SuccessFactors.

For more guidance and step-by-step instructions, please review the Performance Improvement Plan Guide for Managers under the SuccessFactors “Help & Resources” tile, or contact your HR business partner.

Sincerely,
