Alternative Delivery Services
Courier Services Available
The National and international couriers we use are UPS, Federal
Express, IPC, Arrival Messenger Service, and the US Postal Service.
Local and Regional Messenger Services
Several city, state, and regional couriers are available. Call Mail
Services for more information.
Addressing
Post Office box numbers and rural routes are unacceptable addresses
for courier, messenger, or specialized delivery services.
Envelopes, Packaging, and Courier Selection
Envelopes
The various couriers supply us with 9x12 envelopes and other shipping
containers (they are sometimes called Overnight Letters or other
trade names).
Courier Selection
Selection of couriers depends on several factors:
- Delivery destination and time really needed (statistically,
65% of overnight mail doesn't need to be at the destination at
a specific time, just next day or second day, at any time).
- Selection also depends on whether destination is local area,
state area, regional area, national, or international.
- All couriers (with few exceptions) offer: Next Morning, By Noon,
Afternoon (by 3:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m.), and Second Business Day.
Each of these service levels has different price schedules and not
all couriers go to all places within the same time frame.
Local/Regional Couriers
Within our state and up to a 150 mile radius can better be served
by several of our local and regional couriers at a considerable
price reduction over some national couriers.
Consolidation to Redundant Addresses
Mail Services will consolidate overnight materials to on and off
campus sites to obtain the best possible discounts or rates. Call
us for more information.

All couriers deliver incoming shipments usually by 9:00 a.m. If
you have special requirements, call us for receipt times and internal
tracking. UPS delivers to the Receiving dock (Nelson sub-basement).
FedEx delivers to the recipient's office.
To conserve costs:
- Do not request Saturday deliveries as additional charges are
incurred. Also, should you require Saturday service, determine
if anyone is going to be at the delivery destination. Consider
a signature waiver to be sure the item is left by delivery personnel.
- Do not use overnight services on Friday. Consider Priority USPS
mail for Monday delivery.
Note: To assure mailings are prepared to all specifications,
it is highly recommended that the Mail Services supervisor be consulted
about your mailing plans. This will ensure that your mailing program
is cost effective, efficient, and timely.
